Consecrating Your Talisman

To consecrate a talisman means to cleanse it of all foreign vibrations and then charge it with a specific energy.

Most consecrations consist of 3 parts: sprinkle, cense, and bless. The object that is to be consecrated is sprinkled with salted "holy" water, passed through incense smoke, and then blessed or dedicated. This can be done in a religious or non-religious context.  folks consecrate utilizing just the four elements for example.

A personal consecration can be as simple or as complex as you wish it to be. It need not be elaborate and the words can be spontaneous as long as they come straight from the heart. A simple personal consecration can be performed as follows:

Set up your ritual area and/or create sacred space as you normally would. Light some good cleansing incense. Bless some salt and water placed in two small bowls (or use the salt and water from creating your sacred space). Mix a little of the salt with the water.

1. Hold your talisman aloft and declare your intent. The intent (desired effect) of your talisman should be visualized whenever possible throughout the entire consecration.

2. Hold your talisman in your left hand. Dip the fingers of your right hand into the salted water (or use an aspergillum) and sprinkle your talisman on both sides. You could say "I consecrate this talisman with the element of earth and the element of water".

3. Transfer your talisman to your right hand and pass it through the billowing incense smoke. You could say "I consecrate this talisman with the element of air and the element of fire".

4. Hold your talisman aloft again and bless/charge it. You can say something like:

Here is my talisman crafted of the four elements". Or "Here is my talisman prepared/created in Your Honor". Or perhaps "Here is my talisman prepared in the traditional manner".

"May it serve me well in the name/s of _____ and help me to attain that which I desire. So be it!

Afterwards wipe the salt water off your talisman as soon as possible. Salt will cause corrosion.

After consecration your new talisman should be carried with you as close to the skin as possible. Many folks carry their talismans in a "mojo" or "spell" bag.

Don't let others handle your talisman after it has been consecrated. Periodically re-consecrate your talisman to recharge it. You can re-consecrate your talisman anytime you feel the need. If your name ever wears off and needs to be re-scripted, re-consecrate your talisman after doing so. You should re-consecrate your talisman if anyone touches it without your permission or it comes in direct contact with non-consecrated objects that might psychically contaminate it.
