- Talismans were originally discs of
precious metals inscribed with magical symbols designed to
attract or control certain forces or energies. These energies are
referred to as planetary or elemental forces, spirits, angels or
intelligences.
-
- The famous occult order known as
the Golden Dawn defined a talisman as "a magical figurine charged
with the Force which it is intended to represent. The word talisman
comes from the Greek "teleo" which means "to
consecrate". Consecration is what "charges" or
activates a talisman. To some this is a magical act and to others a
talisman merely aids to unlock these forces from the depths of our own
subconscious minds
-
- Talismans were once considered
powerful magical tools, but few contemporary folks have the means to
fashion and inscribe metal these days. Paper and commercially made
cast-pewter talismans have pretty much replaced the original planetary
metals.
-
- In addition to the fact that
pewter is not a planetary
metal, mass produced pewter talismans
generally have the symbols from the Key of Solomon cast into them.
Most modern folk would have little use for these ceremonial sorcery
symbols. People have little choice these days except to make paper
talismans which pale in comparison to the original planetary metal
ones.
-
- In addition to the planetary metal
required, a talisman must be hand-made during specific planetary
days and hours, and during certain lunar cycles as well. Then a
talisman must be consecrated to activate it. The consecration is the
easy part. It's the construction of a planetary talisman that is the
difficult part.

- OLDE ENCHANTMENTS PLANETARY
TALISMANS
-
- Olde Enchantments does the
difficult, hand-crafting part of owning a talisman for you. All you
need to do is add your name and then consecrate or bless your new talisman to charge
(activate) it.
-
- Olde Enchantments Talismans are
made of traditional planetary metals engraved with useful sigils that
are not gleaned from ceremonial sorcery. Each talisman is uniquely
hand-craefted and not mass-produced. No two are exactly alike. Unlike
paper talismans they will last a lifetime. Unless otherwise specified,
our Talismans are always engraved within an appropriately dedicated
ritual circle during the traditional planetary times and lunar cycles.
-
- Olde Enchantments talismans are
suitable for people of any path, tradition, religion, or spirituality
who were born with a little magic in their hearts.
-
-
- HOW ARE OLDE ENCHANTMENTS
TALISMANS MADE?
-
- First a word of intent or a name
is converted to numbers through the use of a numerology
chart. These
numbers are then traced in one continuous line on the appropriate
planetary kamea.
-
- Kameas are seven magical squares
that are used to link to specific planetary energies. In each of the
seven kameas, the numbers in any one row, whether vertical or
horizontal, add up to the same total. Kameas are said to have
originally come from the grimoires (books of magic) of the Abbot
Trithemius, Peter de Abano, and Cornelius Agrippa. Better known
grimoires which feature talismanic magic are The Magus, The Black
Pullet, and The Key of Solomon.
-
- When completed this line is known
as a sigil or seal. A dot or ball is used to designate the beginning
of the sigil and a small perpendicular line is used to designate the
ending. This sigil is then hand-engraved on a disc of the appropriate
planetary metal during the specific day and hours of the planetary
influence desired, as well as during the appropriate lunar cycle, by
our resident talismanologist
-
- This engraving is done in a
dedicated ritual circle utilizing planetary incense, colours, symbols,
etc. to incorporate as many planetary correspondences into the
construction as possible. This is a narrow window each month in which
to properly create talismans. This is why talismans cannot be
mass-produced.
-
-
- CUSTOM TALISMANS ARE AVAILABLE
-
- Our resident talismanologist will
hand-craft a custom talisman with a sigil of your name on the planetary kamea
of your choice Custom talismans must be pre-paid and there
will be a wait for the appropriate planetary and lunar timing to
properly construct your talisman. The opposite side of custom
talismans can be engraved with a scripted name in a magical alphabet,
a symbol of your own design, or left blank.
-
-
- HOW TO USE A TALISMAN
-
- First your name should be added to the blank side of your new talisman. Use your full legal name or a spiritual or magical name unique to you. You can scribe it with a sharp nail, awl, or ritual tool (such as a burin) but the easy way is to simply use an indelible paint marker of some type or even a magic marker. Use whatever script or alphabet you prefer.
The best time to add your name is on the traditional planetary day and perhaps even during the traditional planetary hour for your particular talisman. (See
the menu above for the traditional Planetary Days and Hours.) This
could be done within ritually created Sacred Space of course.
You should then consecrate your new talisman to activate it. See the
menu above for some popular and easy to perform consecrations.
After consecration your new talisman should be carried with you as close to the skin as possible. Many folks carry their talismans in a "mojo" or "spell" bag. Don't let others handle your talisman after it has been consecrated. You can re-consecrate your talisman anytime you feel the need. If your name ever wears off and needs to be re-scripted, re-consecrate your talisman after doing so. Periodically re-consecrate your talisman to recharge it.
